Job Description: Kids Director / Children’s Pastor

Purpose Statement

To support the vision of our church by leading ministries that inspire children from birth to fifth grade to become lifelong disciples of Jesus.


Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Oversight

  • Lead all aspects of volunteer engagement in the children’s ministry, including recruitment, screening, training, scheduling, communication, management, and celebration.
  • Maintain weekly volunteer communication and scheduling, facilitate quarterly team meetups, and foster ongoing team building.
  • Partner with the Volunteer Administrator to ensure all volunteers complete abuse prevention training, background checks, reference checks, and receive role-specific training.

Age-Specific Ministry Oversight

  • Nursery (Birth to Age 2): Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for infants and mothers.
  • Toddlers to Kindergarten: Provide age-appropriate snacks, Bible lessons, music, games, crafts, and activities that teach foundational truths about God’s love.
  • Elementary (Grades 1–5): Oversee a dynamic weekly program including Bible teaching, music, games, crafts, memory verses, and prize-based incentives that encourage engagement and learning.

Mid-Week Programming

  • Lead the mid-week children’s program that builds on Sunday content through interactive activities, small group discussions, crafts, and spiritual growth experiences.

Vacation Bible School (VBS)

  • Plan and lead a one-week VBS program each summer, coordinating all elements of curriculum, volunteers, scheduling, and logistics.

Family Engagement

  • Build relationships with children and parents through personal calls, visits, and pastoral care.
  • Champion parent support and discipleship by offering regular courses and resources to help families grow in faith together.

General Staff Responsibilities

  • As a member of the staff team, you serve the entire church community and may be asked to participate in a variety of ministries and events, including visitation, prayer, leadership training, and special church initiatives as assigned by your reporting manager.

You are expected to be deeply familiar with and an active champion of the church’s vision, values, policies, and procedures. A flexible, servant-hearted, and joyful attitude is essential as you collaborate with staff and volunteers to nurture a vibrant children’s ministry.
